You are Where You Live

Last night, during the "Boehl Lecture in Land Use" we learned about an innovative, interesting, and slightly disturbing new marketing system that defines every neighborhood in the U.S. in terms of distinct lifestyle types using ground-breaking segmentation techniques. 


People living in the same neighborhoods tend to have similar lifestyles, proving the old adage that "birds of a feather flock together" still holds true. To a large extent, you are where you live! Claritas is a marketing system that helps businesses decide what geographic regions to target. You may think you are choosing where you shop, but in reality, it is being chosen for you. 



I'm proud (or should I be embarrassed?) to admit that I live in a "Shotguns and Pickup" zip-code.
